As the generations transition from "Gen X" to "Millennials," the importance of this up-and-coming age group and its place in society is increasing. The children of yesterday are becoming the professionals of tomorrow, and businesses are beginning to take notice. The push from membership organizations directly dedicated to youth and young professionals is quickly growing, and the Kentucky International Convention Center is proving to be a useful outlet.
In February and March, the Kentucky International Convention Center will hold 25 events, 12 of those directly correlating to youth. Events such as the Youth Opportunity Showcase, the Lousiville National College Fair, Louisville Kid’s Fair and the 2012 Kentucky Junior Beta Convention, focus their attention on helping the future leaders of our nation develop skills for success.
Both the Youth Opportunity Showcase and Louisville National College Fair are dedicated to helping teens and young adults navigate opportunities after high school. The Youth Opportunity Showcase offers job training, employment and internship opportunities; while the Louisville National College Fair provides information on local colleges and universities to students looking to further their education. The Louisville Kid’s Fair and Junior Beta Convention’s audience are the youngest sector of the new generation, elementary and middle school students. All events recognize the importance of preparing tomorrow’s leaders.
"The focus in the convention business is constantly shifting to accommodate the business men and women of tomorrow," said Linda Edwards, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Kentucky State Fair Board. "It is great to see membership organizations interested in helping the next generations grow to their full-potential, and to see our facility assisting in the process."
Achieving scholastic success is just one aspect of the youth organization business. Sporting activities geared toward young adults also take up a large chunk of the calendar at the Kentucky International Convention Center. Multiple cheerleading and dance competitions, including the 2012 Jamfest Nationals and 2012 NCA High School Open National Championship will occur within the next few months. Another sporting exhibition and great example of youth leadership can be found at Hwang’s Martial Arts Exposition for the Kosair Children’s Hospital Foundation. The event inspires attendees as members of Hwang’s Martial Arts participate in a variety of performances for the audience, with proceeds benefitting patients at Kosair Children’s hospital.
The importance of investing in the future generation has proven itself time and time again through history as the nation and the world continue to progress. While the Kentucky International Convention Center plays just a small role in helping teens and young adults discover their strengths and talents, it is a great and lasting feeling to know the facility is providing an outlet for so many unique strengths to grow and develop.
